2014 Supper Club Chardonnay

Winemakers Notes

The 2014 vintage was one of two halves, the dry and the wet. The two portions that make up the wine come from the Upper Awatere valley and the Lower Wairau, both harvested by the rainy part of the harvest. The 2014 growing season was warm and dry. Budburst was one to two weeks early and favourable summer conditions meant that grapes were phonologically ripe early than average. These conditions lend itself to ripe opulent Chardonnay while keeping the acid restrained. 

  • Sub regional composition: 80% Awatere, 20% Lower Wairau
  • 30% Barrel fermentation + matured for 7 months with twice weekly lees stirring, 70% Stainless fermentation and aged on light lees
  • 85% of it went through MLF with the remaining sulphured early to retain acidity

Tasting note:
 
Soft pale yellow with an attractive straw hue. Aromas of white peach and citrus dominate with a underlying mineral streak. Flavours of stonefruit and flint with a moreish mouthfeel and a crisp juicy acidity help to draw out the palate. Enjoy now until 2020..
