2015 Sauvignon Blanc ****

Grown at Dillons Point and Rapaura, in the Wairau Valley, this is fine value. The bouquet is fresh, aromatic and limey; the palate lively, juicy and well balanced, with ripely herbaceous flavours, threaded with tangy acidity.

Thursday, May 28, 2015

Our 2014 Supper Club Chardonnay has been released.

"It is elegantly fragrant on the nose displaying white nectarine and rockmelon characters with subtle vanilla and cedar complexity. The palate is succulent and beautifully weighted, and delivers generous fruit intensity and silky texture. A rounded and attractive chardonnay with a lingering creamy finish. At its best: now to 2018." Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Raymond Chan Wine Review Supper Club Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

The ‘Supper Club’ brand of Christchurch wine distributor Alastair Picton-Warlow has taken a life of its own. Designed to be an everyday and affordable label that harks back to the frivolous and fun times of the Supper Clubs in London during the late 1940s, the wine suits these modern times. It is growing in the New Zealand market and has been exported. Alastair has the assistance of Nick Entwistle and Sam Rose with the Marlborough wines and Dean Shaw for the Central Otago wine. I’ve seen the Sauvignon Blanc wine steadily progressing in balance and flavour expression since the 2011 vintage release. Here is my review of the new 2014 release.

Supper Club Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014 ****

Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, near colourless on rim. The nose is very fresh, tightly held with penetrating aromas of pungent passionfruit along with chalky, minerally notes, and grassy, nettly and esters-lifted nuances. This is pure and mouthwatering. Dry to taste and slender in expression, attractively aromatic and pungent passionfruit flavours show alongside nettles, grassy notes and gooseberry fruit, forming a good core with depth and linearity. Light phenolic textures lend a soft, graininess with restrained acidity enhancing the rounded mouthfeel. The flavours carry through to a long, dry finish with passionfruit notes. This is an elegant, intense, passionfruity Sauvignon Blanc with soft grainy textures. Serve with seafood and poultry dishes over the next 2 years. Fruit from Dillons Point and 20 y.o. vines on Rapaura Road, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc. 17.5-/20 Aug 2014

Joelle Thompson Review

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

This wine has a fun name and a fun approach, both of which are supported by its incredibly zesty fresh style. It has intense flavours of citrus - lemon, grapefruit and lime zest – as well as red fleshy apples and peach juice. Its intense acidity and light body are well balanced by its firm, lightly grippy finish. This adds substance and weight to this youthful Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, which is from the largest vintage ever in New Zealand’s wine history; 2014. 4 stars out of 5

Supper Club Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2013

A nicely textured wine with a perfumed nose. The fruit flavours are tropical and ripe with green capsicum notes and the acidity is vibrant and racy. Clean, very crisp and refreshing.

Great feedback from Raymond Chan

We were delighted to receive great feedback from Raymond Chan which accompanied his recent reviews...

'These new wines show a step up for Supper Club. The Sauv Blanc 2013 is lovely with good sweet passionfruity flavours. A little more concentration and it’s up there with some big names. I found the Pinot Noir 2012 particularly interesting on bouquet especially. A little lighter and drier on palate after the nose, making it ‘pretty’. They are really good value wines, and deliver plenty for the price.'
